Chetvā Sutta

v.l. Jhatvā, Ghatvā.– A certain deity approaches the Blessed One at Jetavana and asks:

“Having slain what does one sleep happily? What, having slain, does one not sorrow? What is the one thing, the killing of which you approve Gotama?”

“Having slain anger, one sleeps happily. Having slain anger, one does not sorrow. Anger with its poisoned root and honeyed tip, the killing of this, the noble ones praise.” S.i.41.

The sutta is repeated under the same name in S.i.237, where the question is asked by Sakka.

It appears again under the names of the Māgha Sutta (S.i.46) where the devatā Māgha asks the question, and again as the Dhanañjānī Sutta where it is the Bhāradvāja Brahmaṇa Dhanañjāni who again asks the same question (S.i.160).
